State University of Novi Pazar was established by the decision of  Government of the Republic of Serbia at the session held in Nis on 26.10.2006, based on Article 40 Paragraph 2 Law on Higher Education and article 43, Paragraph 1, Law on the Government. University began implementation of study programs from the 2006/2007 school year.

As the only integrated university in the Republic of Serbia, it embodies the following high units:

1. Faculty of Arts
2. Legal and Economic Faculty
3. Faculty of Technical Sciences

State University of Novi Pazar is the only integrated university that exists in the country and is completely designed and adapted to work and school students on the principles of the Bologna Declaration.

As Acting Rector of the University of Novi Pazar was appointed Prof. Dr. Cemal Dolicanin.
